So Talented

So Dalyn and Raegan had the opportunity to participate in their schools talent show. the school sent home a note that said they would be holding tryouts and if our child was interested they had to come prepared on a certain day. So Dalyn and Raegan got busy. Dalyn has been working on a few magic tricks for a while now, Terry dug up a couple more that would be easy for him and he started practicing. Terry made him this magic show stand which also doubled as a shield for him to get ready behind and made him a magic box complete with lock and key. He and Terry worked up this whole little routine with little stories that lead into the next trick, he did such a great job and his class loved it. Two kids were chosen from his class to move on to the next level of tryouts and he was one picked. Who knows if he will get to perform in front of the whole school, but he is having a ton of fun in the mean time.

Raegan decided that she wanted to sing so we practiced "Popcorn Popping" and I sent her to school with the CD. When it was her turn she jumped right up in front of her class and sang the whole song with actions, she even smiled and tried to remember to sing loud. She did a great job, as soon as she finished a kid from her class said "that was cute! I like that song!" Her teacher asked for a copy so she could teach it to the class, then she asked Raegan if she would feel comfortable singing that song in front of the whole school, Raegan was a firm NO on that one, but she did a good job and had tons of fun. In the car afterward she said she would probably feel brave enough next year. This was a good first step. I videoed both the performances but for some reason blogger doesn't like my video, so the picture I took before they started is all you get!
I also have to comment on Raegans outfit. For the last two weeks she has been insisting on going to school in dresses. "Real princesses only were dresses, not pants" She even lets me do hair in styles that take longer then 5 seconds in the morning, it is trashed by the end of the day but whatever.

Dalyn and Raegan have discovered Jenga. It is so fun that they are getting old enough to actually play real games with not just Memory, Elefun, and Pop-Up Pirate.
The first picture is a game that Terry, Dalyn and Raegan played and the next is one just Dalyn and I played, I won by the way :) but those days are short too. Dalyn puts up a good fight!

For the last year Terry and I have tried to find ways to spend individual quality time with our kids. Our solution was to take them on dates. Every month the kids get to go out with one parent on a special outing. Then the next month the other parent gets a turn. We try to gear the activity specifically for the child. Last week Terry took Ryan to the arcade and really didn't play one game just let Ryan run from one to the next pretending and sitting on the rides, he did do a few of those. Once Terry took Raegan to his work after everyone had gone home and they sat on the floor and played board games and drank hot coco, We have set up a movie in the back of our van and had treats like we were at the drive in. Some are really simple and some are more involved. this month was my turn with Raegan. The young women in our ward planned an ice skating activity, so I decided to bring Raegan along for that. She had a blast, and is a better skater then me. Thankfully there were girls there who could pull her around the ice, if it had been just me she would have been on the floor a lot more and probably in a lot more pain cuz I would have fallen on her, as it was she only fell once, and has decided she wants to take ice skating lessons, nice, maybe next year! Anyway it was a ton of fun and hopefully building good memories!

I love the idea of going on dates with the kids. We usually take the whole family on a date together.
