I will now ascend my soap box . . .
All along my life I have managed to pick up little gems of knowledge and wisdom here and there. This is one that I thought I would share and maybe somebody else can benefit as I have!
All moms know having babies reeks havoc on the old bod, and lots of moms know that having babies can also reek havoc on your psyche, especially those first few weeks after delivery.
In all honestly I didn't even know it was coming after my first, sort of blind sided me, the weepy, crying about nothing, so sad, overwhelmed, crazy, yucky, I am not myself, after baby funk. To me this part of having a baby is more annoying then the frumpy, lumpy body I get to tote around for months AFTER baby shows up. BUT have no fear it can all be avoided!!!!!!!! (not the frumpy, lumpy part, unless you have something you would like to share!)
After baby #1 I swore I would not repeat the "after funk" ever again. Started to do some research and was lucky to know a lady who had 2 Masters Degrees and a Doctorate in Women's Mental Health, she did a class, luckily I showed up for it and forever changed my post baby life!
She clued me in to the magic of WILD YAM CREAM! Lots of you have already heard my little schpeel on this awesome stuff, so I'll spare you the repeat physiology lesson and give you the link where I get mine. Its called Resolve and I get it here
Okay so we all make progesterone, this is the happy hormone in our bodies that keep us not depressed. When you get preggo your body continues to make this stuff until around week 12, when the placenta takes over as main progesterone producer (this is also the stuff that keeps you preggo), your body all but stops making progesterone and lets the placenta tick away.
So when baby is born and the placenta is delivered all of the sudden your body has a major shock, progesterone producer there one second, gone the next, and it sends your body into wack mode trying to figure out what happened and compensate for it.
You can get pills that have progesterone (anti-depressants), this was not the road for me, I just wanted something to tell my body, hey time to start making this stuff again. This is what the yam cream does. It is a protein that triggers your body to start producing the progesterone on its own, you can get yam creams that have progesterone in them, but to me this defeats the whole purpose of allowing your body to work naturally. If the progesterone is still being provided, as it was when the placenta was making it, why would your body start to make its own?
With all my next babies I order this stuff and make sure I take it to the hospital with me, so I can put it on right after my first shower after I deliver (don't want to put it on before you deliver, remember it helps keep you preggo). The direction I received was to rub it into the fatty parts of your body, and post baby well, take your pick, huh? Anyway I always buy two little tubs of the stuff and put it on after every shower and usually one other time during the day for the first tub then only once a day going through the second tub.
And its MAGIC I tell you MAGIC!!!! No more baby blues!! No more post baby funk!! You just get to enjoy the awesome time you are in with new bundle of baby and your body can take care of itself!
A couple other tricks I picked up that I do in conjunction with the yam cream is: eat salmon and sweet potatoes at least 3-4 times a week for the first couple weeks at least and drink TONS of water. Did you now the Polynesian Island ladies have less reported baby blues then any other women? It is attributed to their diet, hence the reason I eat salmon and sweet potatoes. Also salmon has been proven to help women's mental health, btw.
So there you go folks! Hopefully someone out there will benefit from this! It really is amazing! Let me know if you try it and how it worked for you!

Very cool info. Thanks for sharing. Too bad I'm done having babies;)!
Thanks for the tip Sara! I am going to order myself some right away.
That's so good to know! Because it always scares me to get that post-partum depression stuff, especially after working in the ER where I see all of these healthy young women who just had a baby and they come in because they're so depressed that they've become suicidal and have to meet with our crisis workers and even get admitted into our psych ward. It scares me really bad so whenever we get preggo I'll be calling you about this stuff and changing my diet for sure! Thanks
