I started having contractions on Wed the 30th. I thought for sure I would have her that day. Terry stayed home from work and we walked, EVERYWHERE, but by the end of the day, nothing, no more contractions, nothing. Thursday was the same story, nothing, not even Braxton Hicks.
I had my appointment late that afternoon. When the doc checked me he said I was dilated to a 3-4. I was Shocked, I NEVER dilate that much unless I am in active labor, that should have clued me in right there that we had a whir wind coming.
That night around mid-night I felt the first contraction, 10 minutes later, another one, 10 minutes later, well you know. Terry was snoozing soundly on the bed next to me about 4 contractions in I really started to get annoyed with his comfort, and began informing him of each contraction with my elbow and put him in charge of telling me the time that had lapsed from the last one.
When we got to 8 minutes apart and I was SUPER uncomfortable, I decided I was going to get up and get things ready. Finished stuffing a few last minute things in my bag, and writing some instructions about the kids and school that day for my mom. Around 1:30 I started to really feel like we needed to get to the hospital. The contractions where 5 minutes apart and really, really hurt. We called my mom and she came over right away. By the time we got to the hospital it was 2:00 am.
The nurse checked me in and said, "So you think you are in labor?" I am pretty sure I just glared at her and I heard Terry laugh out loud, at which point she said, "Well lets just see where you are." About a FIVE, but easily goes to an EIGHT! My history of baby delivery goes like this, get to a six, water breaks, baby in 5 minutes. When she said 8 I sort of freaked, "I need an epidural, or drugs or something, and you all need to call the doc right now" Ten minutes later they moved me to another room. They had been trying to get an IV in my arm, I got stuck 5 times and they blew up a vein, before I finally asked the lady to "PALEEEZ go get someone else to do this!"
The doc got his page at 2:15 got to the hospital at 2:25 walked in the room where I was informing them I needed to push and where was my epidural? The doc suited up walked over to the bed broke my water, I pushed once and Jillian was born at 2:38 am!

And if you think it was really all that calm and quiet and non chaotic, and I was the picture of composure, well that's okay, you just keep thinking that, really it was not my proudest moment :) To really describe the moment I think Lorelai Gilmore said it best "While some call it the most wonderful experience in their lives I thought it felt more like doing the splits over a stick of dynamite!"
Isn't she a doll? We are all smitten by this little beauty!

WOW! What a ride! I am so glad she is here safely, and that you got to the hospital in time. I am one of those that goes in the second I have a contraction, because I'm afraid i won't get my medicine in time for delivery. Congrats, she is beautiful!
