Time Flies

Well my baby boy turned 8 last month! I can hardly believe it, 1- that 8 years have actually gone by since he was born, I can still remember every detail and 2-that I really am old enough to have and 8 year old (sigh).
All sorts of new things happen when your boy turns eight,

Cub Scouts; he got to participate in the Blue and Gold Dinner this year. They had to make theme cakes. Dalyn told us the theme he wanted so we baked the cakes in the shape he needed then he was in charge of the rest. He did a great job!

He also got to do the pine wood derby this year! How fun! I remember when my brothers did pine wood derby, and I remember it being really fun then, it still is! Terry downloaded a bunch of derby car shapes, Dalyn picked the one he wanted, Terry used the ban saw to cut it out, then Dalyn did the rest. I turned out really well. It was funny, on the day of the race we discovered all of the boys had painted their cars the same color, black, they must have planned that :) Anyway Dalyn ended up getting second place so he gets to compete in the district race, he is pretty thrilled about that. The pressure of it all is just too much

Dalyn was so proud to be able to do the flag ceremony, I didn't get many pictures but it was cute to see him bring the flag in.

And of course along with getting older comes PARTIES! We love parties at our house. Dalyn said he wanted a scientist party this year. So we decked the kids out in mad scientist glasses and lab coats and planned tons of cool experiments.
I hesitate to post these pictures because some people get really weirded out seeing their kids on blogs(huh camille, wink wink), but every picture of my cute kid had someone else's cute kids in them too. SO if you see your kid on this and you would prefer not to, just let me know and I will take it off :)!
The boys made gum drop molecules when they first arrived. I was impressed with the detail they created.
Then we had them mix a concoction to make their own slime, what boy doesn't love slime?

We erupted baking soda volcanoes Then went outside and erupted mentos volcanoes in soda! That was a major hit too!

Of course we had a mad scientist cake and drink
Then the lootIt was a fun day! We are thankful every day to have Dalyn. He is such a joy to our family! What an awesome big brother. He is such an example to me and a reminder that it is the small things in life that can make the biggest difference. He is always good for a laugh and then the next second has you pondering spiritual things, he asks the most insightful questions as I have ever heard from one so young. I am thrilled to see the young man he is becoming and thrilled even more that I get to be a part of it and have a front row seat! We love you D!

You are so creative! I love reading your blog, you April Fools day ideas were awesome too. You seriously inspire me, and I hope I can be cute with my kids, as you are with yours. Happy Birthday to Dalyn! I love the cute ideas for the party, and I can't believe he's 8 already either. We love you guys and can't wait to see you again :)
