April Fools was super awesome this year!
We started our fooling at mid-night while the kids were snoozing. Terry and I picked up our sleeping babes and moved them all around to different beds. Jilli was the only one we didn't move.
In the morning Janie and Ryan were the only ones still in the beds we moved them to. Raegan woke up a couple hours after we moved her crying. She kept saying "I don't want to sleep in Dalyn's bed! He farts in here, and the farts stay like FOREVER! I don't wanna sleep in Dalyn's bed!" She was highly distraught and only half awake, so it made it extra funny to us!
I also took a eye liner pencil to all their faces that night too. They all woke up sporting a sweet 'stache and eyebrows. Most of it wore off by morning. Next year I will have to creep in for my artistry in the wee hours of the morning instead of the other end of the night . . .
I started my April Fools prep a couple days before.
I saw these cookies on pintrest and thought I would give them a try. They are supposed to look like chocolate chip cookies. They totally don't but I packed them in the kids lunches anyway. I think Raegan was the only one who even ventured a bite . . .
For breakfast I served "Trix" cereal that had quik sprinkled at the bottom of the bowl . . .
and our traditional "fried egg"
After breakfast I told them to go brush their teeth. They were a little confused as to why I wasn't getting their brushes ready for them. Last year I put frosting on their toothbrushes. This year I poured salt in the bristles so they couldn't see that anything was up until they started brushing :)
Lunch was pretty traditional.
I laminated "April Fool's" cards and hide them in their sandwiches. . .
Dalyn has been getting wise to this trick the last couple years and pulls the card out before taking a bite, so this year I had to step it up a bit. I hide a second card in his sandwich and made sure it was extra hidden . . .
He pulled the first note out but the second one got him!!
This is the lunch I packed them: Sandwich, swiched chips, Jello orange slices, bottle of milk, wormy apple, "chocolate chip cookie", and super sour cry baby candy . . .
After school I got them all excited that I had brownies for after school snack after their backpacks were unloaded and hands were washed. They hurried and got everything done, got to the table where I gave them brown e's . . .
We really did have brownies after everyone had a good laugh.
For dinner we invited some friends over.
Everyone had to reach in a bag and pull out the utensil they had to eat their dinner with and from a seperate bag they pulled out the "cup" they had to use. The utensils were things like tongs, spatulas and giant spoons. The cups were things like measuring cups, baby bottles, bowls or pitchers.
I served dinner first. It was a delicious course of grilled cheese, which was actually toasted pound cake and orange frosting. I wish I had a picture, they actually looked like grilled cheese.
Then on to dessert, strawberry pie. This was actually meatloaf in a pie crust with mashed potatoes colored with beets. It was yummy!
Terry had to leave on business early that morning so I was left to pull April Fools together by myself. It went off great! The kids had a great time, so did their mama!
